Our long term primary objectives are:
- To maintain and continually develop our vibrant, financially and operationally robust and profitable business
- To generate the profit required to meet our business needs, within a sound financial framework
- To make best use of our available capacity
- To plan and develop our infrastructure to meet the needs of the market and of our customers.
Plan objectives 2010 - 2012
- To maintain our momentum in becoming a high skills, technical and professionally focused organisation
- To further enhance our reputation as one of the UK's most commercially successful and well managed port authorities
- To remain cash positive during each year of the plan and build our reserves, to deliver additional capacity when it is needed
- To train and develop our people and to retain our 'Investors in People' accreditation
- To develop our policies, processes and procedures and imbed ISO disciplines in all of our activities
Our guiding principles
- We seek to improve and maintain the facilities and levels of service offered by all departments of the port to our customers, maintaining our position as one of the leading ferry ports in the world
- We intend to add value to the port and to hand on to future generations a thriving business and a modern and efficient infrastructure
- We will meet all of our national and international legal obligations in respect of port operations and the operation of a port business
- We shall support competition where it is in the best interest of the consumer and improves consumer choice
- We place responsible safety and security management at the core of our activities ensuring a safe environment for all those who work in or visit the Port of Dover
- We will seek to provide for environmental sustainability in the management of existing assets and in all future developments, lowering our ecolgical footprint and delivering on our environmetal responsibilities in respect to climate change
- We will market and promote the Port of Dover and the work of the Dover Harbour Board to a wider public both nationally and, where it is in our interests, internationally, to government, the EU and any other agencies and bodies we wish to influence or whose decisions and actions affect our organisation
- We seek to maintain the highest levels of accountability to our many stakeholders, maintaining our reputation as the port of best practice
- We aspire to excellence in business efficiency, continuously improving our business processes, policies and the management of our resources.
