4th December 2020 - Press Release
Why Boxing Day is a day too late

We know many of you are anxious about the coming months. With congestion at container ports, concerns over the End of Transition and continuing Covid worries, it's a very uncertain time.
At Dover we are used to dealing with uncertainties and stockpiling demands – we did it three times last year in the run up to Brexit without issue and are quietly and confidently doing it again in the run up to End of Transition in January 2021, to ensure supermarket shelves stay full for Christmas and factories up and down the nation stay busy.
In addition to high frequency, high capacity resilient ferry operations, if you have goods to bring in or ship out we have a new dedicated cargo terminal to handle that, which also benefits from fast and direct access into Europe on the shortest sea crossing. We have a depth of water of 10 metres and a 225 metre quayside able to accommodate both feeder and short sea vessels. Or if you just need peace of mind with alternative arrangements, we can do that as well. Our fully equipped cargo terminal with cranes, reach stackers and all you would expect from a fully operational container terminal includes a 24/7 workforce, which is used to handling containers, loaded and empty, as well as a broad range of other cargoes.
We are continuing to show our resilience in keeping essential freight flowing through the pandemic, currently moving in excess of 9,000 lorries every day – that’s the equivalent of nearly 20,000 TEU of containers. So if you need to shift food, drink, medical supplies, PPE or components fast we have the shortest and most frequent ferry crossings to Europe in order to do just that.
Dover works so that business doesn’t stop. Haulage companies do not have to book a slot to sail over from Dover and reach their markets just in time – they simply turn up and go.
Whatever your requirements, we are here to help people stock up in time for Christmas, including Santa – we wouldn’t want him to have to leave a note saying presents will be delivered a day late!
