 To help maximise the efficiency you already enjoy today, from 1st January 2021 you will need to be aware of, and prepare for, the following:

Exporting goods from the UK…

 Traders must complete the correct customs and import/export documentation before your goods arrive in Kent.


Hauliers must have a Kent Access Permit.


What is the “Check an HGV is Ready to Cross the Border” service?

o    Green: all relevant documentation has been declared present, and goods may be taken to the port.

o    Amber: documentation has been declared present, but goods can only be taken to the port after the driver has gone to an HMRC Office of Departure or a Third Party Authorised Consignor to complete customs processes and obtained an MRN barcode.

o    Red: some or all documentation is missing, and goods should not be taken to port.


o    Movement Reference Number (MRN) for the EU customs import declaration

o    Transit Accompanying Document

o    ATA Carnet

o    TIR Carnet


o    Export Health Certificates

o    Phytosanitary Certificates

o    Catch Certificates

o    Documentation for certain restricted goods e.g. CITES goods



Local hauliers will need to apply for a Local Hauliers Permit.
