2nd April 2019 - Press Release
Dover Cruise Port taking a stand on sustainability at Seatrade 2019

The UK's second busiest cruise port will be aiming at first place for promoting a sustainable cruise business at this year's Seatrade 2019 global cruise conference in Miami
Running from 8th to 11th April, Dover Cruise Port will be exhibiting with a stand made entirely from waste plastic that was collected from the world’s oceans and beaches during 2018. From the frame, the walls and furniture to soft furnishing and flooring, the whole stand is made from recycled plastic and it will all be recycled again into another stand at the end of its life, making it truly sustainable.
Sonia Limbrick, Head of Cruise at Dover Cruise Port, said: “We’re taking a stand on ocean plastic – quite literally. With the most sustainable stand ever to exhibit at Seatrade and produced from renewable power, our ‘ecobooth’ is accredited zero waste, a great message for those cruise lines looking to have the least impact on the planet while having the most impact on growing their business.
“Just as over 25 cruise lines already calling at Dover do, we are sure that once you have experienced Dover’s first-class operation, you will want to use Dover again and again. The only thing we do not recycle is the warm welcome you can be assured of from the Dover team – that will be as fresh as the moment your cruise guests wake up to the world famous White Cliffs of Dover coming into view.”
So visit Stand 1123 and see how working with Dover Cruise Port can drive a wave of success for a sustainable cruise business.

Notes to Editors
- The Port of Dover has its own dedicated environmental team working within the port and with users to improve the sustainability of its operations.
- In 2017, the Port of Dover introduced the SEA (Safety Environment Awareness) Award, initiated in order to encourage other users of the Port, specifically visiting cruise vessels, to follow the correct procedures and maximise their recycling. Following this initiative, the percentage of recycling for cruise ship waste increased substantially from 23% to 40% in just one year.
