Port of Dover Community Fund: giving local young people hope for the future

A charity, whose goal is to make lasting change for a positive future throughout Dover district, has been awarded £7,500 from the Port of Dover Community Fund.

Bechange provides local people with support in skills development and employment, finance and housing as well as with families and relationships.

The Port of Dover Community Fund is supporting 20 disadvantaged young job seekers from deprived parts of Dover to make a positive change and develop their confidence and skills to move into employment.

The independent panel that recently awarded 10 local projects with the first grants from the Port of Dover Community Fund has been on a special visit to see the work of Bechange first hand and to present a cheque.

The Right Reverend Trevor Willmott, Bishop of Dover and Chair of the independent panel, said:

The panel of the Port of Dover Community Fund is delighted to support Bechange in its important work with Dover’s young jobseekers.  The intensive, targeted work they undertake with our young people is highly effective and something the panel is more than happy to fund.  We wish both Bechange and the young people coming to this project every success.

Angela Doggett, Acting Chief Executive, Bechange, said:

We are delighted that the Port of Dover Community Fund has chosen to support the work we do with Dover’s young people – helping them to develop and overcome barriers, and into training and work.  It’s very rewarding work, allowing young people to feel positive and hopeful for the future, and this grant will make a big difference.  Many thanks to the Fund for supporting Bechange!

Tim Waggott, Chief Executive, Port of Dover, said: “This is a fabulous local charity and I am delighted that their work has been recognised in this way. It stands for everything the Port of Dover Community Fund was set up to do.”

The Port of Dover Community Fund is managed by Kent Community Foundation.
