30th March 2015 - Press Release

Port of Dover hails local innovation at Dover Area Young Enterprise Final

Sir Roger Manwood's school has triumphed at the Dover Area final of the 2014/15 Young Enterprise Company Programme with its company 'Horizon', and will now go on to represent the Dover Area at the Kent final on 30 April 2015 at Oakwood House, Maidstone.

The Port of Dover is now entering its ninth year as the major sponsor of Young Enterprise in the district.  The Port’s Finance Director, Shaun Pottage, was guest speaker and also presented the trophies, certificates and a cheque to the winning company for £250.

Representing one of the four competing Dover district school companies, Horizon won the Dover Area Final with its innovative up-cycling glass bottle lights as part of its initiative Earth&Co. The company also won the awards for best innovation and best trade stand.

‘Eminence’ from Dover Grammar School for Girls won the award for best report and ‘Bright Ideas’ from Dover College won the award for best presentation.

Shaun Pottage, Finance Director, Port of Dover, says:

“As the continuing major sponsor of Young Enterprise in Dover District, we wholeheartedly believe in helping to develop the skills of local young people in order that they can succeed in business after education. The Port of Dover is working to create a culture of enterprise in our local community, making Dover a place of opportunity when we all play our part to create a better future for us all.”

Trudie Hartridge, East Kent Area Manager, Young Enterprise says:

“The Awards highlighted how the Young Enterprise Company Programme can inspire young people to become the entrepreneurs of tomorrow and help them develop practical business skills while they are still at school. The Company Programme is a great platform for students to develop their skills such as confidence, teamwork and resilience and interact with their local business community along the way.”
