Port staff become #litterheroes by volunteering their lunch break to help clean Dover's beaches

As part of the Great British Beach Clean campaign for World Environment Day 2021, Port of Dover staff volunteered their lunch break this week on 10th and 11th June to help clear litter from Dover and Shakespeare beaches.

In conjunction with Dover District Council, the campaign follows on from the recent beach reprofiling work undertaken by the Port to level out shingle and restore easy access to the seafront; all to get it ready for the summer staycation.

Liz Fagg, Environment Manager at the Port of Dover said:

“My thanks go to our staff for going the extra mile this week to help clean two of Dover’s beaches and ensure our seafront is looking its best for the local community to enjoy in this wonderful weather.

We have a strong environmental ethos across the Port, conducting many initiatives throughout our business that minimise environmental impact. I’m delighted that the Great British Spring Clean and World Environment Day has encouraged everyone to come together and appreciate what difference it can make if we all do our bit.”

The Great British Spring Clean is an annual event held across the country by the Keep Britain Tidy campaign where businesses, councils, and communities come together to collect and safely dispose of litter from our streets, parks and beaches.
