Young prize winner takes VIP port tour and a seal

This week the Port of Dover laid on a special welcome to a local eight-year-old girl, Lyvia Eades, who won the kid's competition at this year's Dover Marina Open Day.

Having won a VIP tour of the Port, Lyvia visited Port Control right at the end of the Eastern Arm to see how the Port safely handles over 140 vessel movements a day.  She then went out on the water on-board the Harbour Patrol Launch ‘Dovorian’, one of the Port’s dedicated vessels, as she found out about the different types of vessels that work in the Port and even learnt about a real family of seals that live in the harbour.

Antony Greenwood, Media & PR Officer, at the Port of Dover, said:

“I was delighted to welcome Lyvia and her mum and show them what the Port does.  It is so important that local people have an association with the Port and an understanding of its role. The main thing, though, was that everyone had a great day out.”

A special part of the visit was to present Lyvia with Sammy the Seal, a cuddly toy won as part of the competition, which was about exploring the different wildlife that lives within the harbour

Lyvia said: “The boat ride was brilliant and Sammy will remind me of a great time at the Port.  Everyone was really nice.”

Mr Greenwood added: “My congratulations to Lyvia and I am sure Sammy will give his seal of approval when he arrives in his new home.”
